Thankfully, currently Kenya's Lakipia region does not have any COVID 19. To help prevent the virus, the Kenyan government closed all schools & livestock markets in the region.

Unfortunately, these closures caused a new problem for the Maasai as their rural communities face possible hunger & starvation.

The Maasai buy cooking oil, rice, grains, & some vegetables at the small livestock markets which are now closed and for many communities, their closest food source is now located many miles away in Nanyuki.

To ensure continued meals, MEET solicited donations from various people in the US to send funds to the women in the Twala community to buy food.

With assistance from Kenya MEET Team Members Rosemary Nenini & Liz Silakan, food was purchased in Nanyuki & distributed among 16 women in the Twala community.

Most of the 10 girls who MEET supports are from the Twala area & since all schools are closed, currently all MEET sponsored girls are home assisting their family.

MEET is grateful to provide assistance to Maasai women who have such an urgent need to feed their families during the current pandemic.
