You Can Help These Girls Today

Each girl needs $500 a year to attend secondary school.

MEET is currently supporting these 12 Maasai girls in Kenya’s Laikipia region.

Mirriam

Senior Year at Loise Girls Secondary School

Mirriam is a Maasai girl from a family with 4 children.

She loves school & works hard to make good grades.

Her mother is single and only makes $5 a week by doing the laundry for wealthy families.

Mirriam thought her dream to attend school was not going to happen until MEET offered her a scholarship.

She hopes to follow in her big sister’s footsteps by attending a university some day.

“Without school I would be at home doing chores and maybe I would have been married off and my dream of becoming a doctor would have stopped.” -Mirriam

Pascolin

Senior Year at St. Jude Nturukum Girls School

After her parents divorced, Pascolin lived with her father; but, after a few years, he was unable to care for her properly and sent her to live with an aunt.

Pascolin’s aunt helped her to attend primary school which she greatly enjoyed; but, her aunt was unable to pay for the tuition required for secondary school.

So, to make ends meet, Pascolin was put to work herding goats & cattle.

Thankfully Kenya MEET team member Rosemary met Pascolin & offered her a scholarship through MEET.

“School is helping me to know and understand many things in life.” -Pascolin

Ruth

Senior Year at St. Francis Girls School

Ruth’s parents are both deceased.

Thankfully, she has a very caring older sister who took responsibility to care for the orphaned Ruth.

Unfortunately, her sister did not have enough funds to help Ruth continue her education.

Her sister learned about MEET & directly contacted the founder, Gina Rodgers, requesting help.

“With and education I will be able to improve the life of my people and society.”

Esther

JuniorYear at Mahiga Girls School

Esther comes from a very poor family.

Like many Maasai families, the father has separated from his wife & no longer provides support for his children.

Esther's mother is unable to pay the school tuition on the small wages that she makes.

Esther has excellent grades & has been admitted into one of the top secondary schools in Kenya.

Faith

Junior Year at St. Francis Girls School

Faith comes from the ancient Yiaku tribe which for many centuries has been the Keeper of the Forest west of Mount Kenya.

The tribe is now part of the Maasai culture.

Faith does not have a mother or father & when she is not attending school, she lives with her sister.

Her sister struggles to find permanent work & is unable to pay necessary school fees.

Faith felt like her life was hopeless until she received a scholarship from MEET to attend secondary school.

“Education is the key to success in this life.”

- Faith

Putunoi Penina

Junior Year at Kangubiri Girls High School

Penina comes from a family with four children.

Her mother was able to attend secondary school & is now a Maasai leader in her community.

Penina’s family is a typical Maasai family living a traditional lifestyle in a mud hut on the African plains.

The family’s only income is from selling their goats and cattle when possible.

Penina’s family believes in sharing what they have with others and continue to take into home destitute women and their children in times of need.

They even adopted three orphans who lost their parents at a very young age.

Penina’s mother also helped three young women who were forced into an early marriage to attain their freedom & return to school.

For these reasons, we are happy to share the kindness this family has given others by helping their oldest daughter.

“I am going to work hard to achieve my target of attending my dream university, Oxford.”

- Penina

Peninah

Sophomore Year at Loise Girls Secondary School

Peninah is the fourth student MEET has helped from the Twala Women’s Cooperative which is located between Nanyuki and Dol Dol.

(The first girl that MEET sponsored in 2015 came from Twala)

Both her parents died which made it difficult for her to attend school even though she had excellent grades.

Peninah thought all hope was lost to attend school until the Twala women told her she should apply for a MEET scholarship.

It is a joy to welcome another dedicated Maasai girl from this Maasai Twala Women’s Cooperative.

“In my studies I’m trying my best to achieve my goals of getting and ‘A Grade’ in my future exams.”

- Peninah

Raeli

Sophmore Year at St. Francis Girls School

Raeli comes from a very poor family.

After her father’s death, the family struggled to survive & often went without food.

Her mother is uneducated & unable to attain a job to support her children’s basic needs.

Raeli wishes to study hard so that she might able to attend a university & afterwards be able to support her family and community.

“I promise to work hard and put in more effort on my examinations.”

- Raeli

Sidney

Freshman Year at Ndururumo High

Sidney’s father was once an educator; but, is now unable to work due to mental illness.

She is the oldest of three children.

MEET is happy to support this girl from Laikipia North.

“I know that hard work pays, and I will work hard until I reach my target.”

- Sidney

Margaret

Freshman Year at St. Francis Girls School

Margaret’s uncle felt that she should get married which would provide wealth for her family by a goats & cows dowry from a future husband.

Thankfully, Margaret and her single mother had other plans.

With MEET’s help, instead of being a child bride, she is attending school.

“With and education I will be able to take care of my family and lift them up.”

- Margaret

Shelina was selected by the Twala Women’s Cooperative to receive a MEET scholarship.
