FACTS ABOUT THE MAASAI IN KENYA
Kenya provides a free primary-level education for all children, but this is only for the first 8 school grades. All secondary schools in Kenya are boarding schools which require a yearly fee for tuition and uniforms. The cost for this education is too staggering for the average traditional Maasai family who still depend on goats and cattle to sustain them.
Even though daily life is changing with a few modern conveniences, some Maasai parents do not see the benefit & value in educating their daughters who will one day live with their husband’s family. This problem is compounded from cultural peer pressure to marry their daughters at a young age so they may receive much needed wedding dowries paid in cash or livestock. Many young Maasai girls wish to continue their education with parental support, but lack the money to do so. If they are unable to continue their education, then they are forced into manual labor until their father can arrange for them to be married.
Having an education has been found to be highly beneficial to a Maasai woman. Educated women usually do not undergo FGM (Female Genital Mutilation), are able to make choices on their marriage, and can find jobs to support themselves. By learning their Kenyan civil rights in school, these women are empowered with knowledge which leads to a brighter future for themselves, their families, and their community.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
100% of your donation goes to support the girls in Kenya. The founder and president covers all fees.
All the girls attend quality private boarding schools in the Laikipia region of Kenya.
The girls attend 3 school trimesters: 1st Trimester: January - March 2nd Trimester: May - July 3rd Trimester: September - November
The schooling cost covers the following: room & board, tuition & books, and uniforms
When not attending school, the girls live with relatives or volunteers from the local Maasai community.
All the girls are Maasai from Kenya's Laikipia region.
The girls' relatives or parents support their educational goals.
